How do I transfer my site from another host?
The procedure to transfer a live site from another host depends on the complexity of your site. There are several things that we provide to make your transition easier. Please review the following steps to use as a guideline.

  1. Sign up for an account with us.
  2. Upload the content of your site to our FTP
  3. We create any relevant database that your site needs
  4. We create the email addresses required
  5. Test your site using the Instant Alias that we provide.
  6. Once everything is good, you may delegate your domain to our DNS servers.

If you have a live website with MySQL or other types of database, you may need to stop any updates to the database on the old site to prevent any discrepancies in the data.

Transfer Help
If your site has a significant amount of data to be transferred, we may be able to help you perform direct server to server transfer from your old host. Please send an email with the information about your old account's login information and your new account name with us. We will perform FTP download from your old server using the information provided.

Email
During the DNS transition period, some of your emails may still go to your old host. You need to keep the account open and still check it using your host's mail server's ip address. The best way to do this is to set up a separate account on your email program:

  1. Using the mail.domain.com - this will work for your PNGconnect account once it's transferred.
  2. Using the old host's mail server's ip address - this will continue to pick up mails that still go to the old host

Alternatively, you can also set up the emails at your old host to be forwarded to another address that isn't involved in the move. This is perhaps the easiest way to not lose emails during transfer.

The Instant Alias
We provide an Instant Alias URL for each of your domains so you can directly access your new site without having to perform the DNS changes.

Use this for testing purposes only. Don't use it as a permanent link as the Instant Alias will change if it ever needs to be turned off/on.

Can I have shell access through SSH?
Shell Access via SSH is available on some Unix hosting plans. Shell access to your website can be requested via the control panel. Shell access allows you to perform many maintenance and script installation tasks more easily. Basic Unix skills are required to use this facility.

Do you give any discounts?
We provide progressive discounts on longer term prepayments, up to 15% on a yearly payment.

Do you perform regular backup? How often do you backup data? Do you have any recovery mechanism?
As a standard procedure in any information infrastructure, we perform daily backup on all our customers files and databases. This backup is mainly intended for disaster recovery purpose.

Some other web hosting providers only perform a local backup to another hard drive on the same server. Our backup is created on a pool of backup servers over our internal network. This provides a better reliability in the event of hardware failure of any particular server. Furthermore, with the use of RAID1 mirroring system on all our servers, we minimise the risk of hard drive failures.

Our backup can be easily recovered and restored to its original location should it be required. Although the purpose of our backup is for disaster recovery, we can also restore your data should you ever make a mistake and delete everything from your website account.

Please note that backups are kept for a maximum of 7 days before they are rotated out of the system and replaced with a new daily backup.

Do you provide detailed statistics for my websites? How about raw log files?
Detailed statistics are generated for each of your websites, which comes standard on every account. These statistics provide you with important data such as:

  • number of visitors
  • number of visits
  • page views
  • number of hits
  • the list of most popular pages
  • the list of referrals from other sites
  • the busiest hours
  • and more.

In addition to these statistics, you can also download the raw log files for each of your websites. These log files can be used for off-line analysis with a log analyser tool. Several tools are available, such as Web Trends, ClickTracks, etc.

Do you support Cold Fusion?
PNGconnect does not offer Cold Fusion on its shared hosting service.

Do you support PHP 5 ?
PNGconnect supports PHP5 as well as PHP4 on its Unix and Windows servers. The default PHP version on our Unix hosting service is now PHP5 for all the domains in your account, whereas on our Windows hosting, you can choose between the two versions for each domain independently.

Hosting Country-specific Domain
We can host any domain, such as pg, .com, .net, .org, .com.au, .uk, .us, .de, .ch, .cn, .cx, .it, .mx, .ph, .id, .sg, .sk, or any other valid top level domains.

Country domain registration is normally done via your local country's registrar. Once registered, set your DNS details to our DNS servers and you'll be in business.

How does the multi domain hosting work?
Multi Domain Web Hosting is our web hosting feature that allows you to have multiple web sites in one account.

Unlike other web hosting services, our multi domain web hosting offers true separation. Each domain you host will reside in its own separate directory. Each web site will be completely independent of the others as they each have their own separate email accounts, files, and subdomains.

All the web sites are hosted under one account are accessible via a centralised login so you don't have to switch from one login to another.

I don't have a credit card, can I transfer the money to you?
We accept BillPAY as a method of payment. Most banks will allow you to make BillPAY paments using their online banking facility. For more information please contact your bank about how to pay your bills by BillPAY. Upon sign up, you will be given a one off BillPAY reference number and once your account is active, you will have a permanent reference number that you can use to pay your account periodically.

We also accept PNG company and government cheques and direct deposit - (account details on application)

If I sign up now, can I upgrade to a higher plan later on? Is there any upgrade fees?
You may upgrade at any time, provided that you are on the same platform. When your account is upgraded, you will not lose any data or account settings.

Parking a Domain
You can "park" or point another domain on top of your existing domain. This is also called "Domain Alias", which basically means, if you have www.domain.com you can have www.parkeddomain.com or www.aliasdomain.com to point to the same website as the above.

Furthermore, you can also have all emails sent to xxx@parkeddomain.com to go to the corresponding mail account on domain.com. This feature is called "Mail Domain Alias" which complements the Domain Alias feature.

You may add as many number of parked domains as you wish. The parked domains do not count towards the domains limit of your account.

Payment by Cheque
You can pay for your account with Cheque. Please allow for up to one week of processing. For your convenience we would recommend paying for a year in advance.

What are your uptime guarantees?
As a commitment to our effort in providing a solid and reliable website hosting service, we provide a Service Level Guarantee which gives 99.9% uptime guarantee.

What happens if I exceed my traffic limit?
Any data transfer in excess of the plan threshold will be charged at the end of the billing period. You will be sent a notification when your traffic usage is approaching the limit, however your account will not be automatically suspended.

What is the difference between Unix and Windows Hosting?
Unix Hosting provides a secure and reliable environment that is perfect for most of the hosting needs, but sometimes you want to take advantage of some Windows applications such as MS Access, ASP scripting, ASP.NET or MS SQL Database. For this you might want to use Windows Hosting.

What is the difference between USA and Australian Servers?
The USA servers provides more traffic allowance because the cost of traffic is lower in USA. However from an PNG point of view, due to its distance to USA, there is a slightly bigger latency for the data packets to reach it, so you may feel that the USA site is slightly slower than the Australian one.

What is your policy towards spam?
We do not tolerate any spam activities either directly or indirectly. This includes sending spam via another network with the content of the spam referring to the service (e.g. your web site) hosted on our servers.

What sort of equipment and software are in place to ensure that my site is up?
We understand that the quality of the equipment, network connectivity and properly maintained and secured software is of utmost importance in providing a reliable website hosting service. We have chosen a solid network facility, reliable servers with RAID (Redundant Array of Inexpensive Drives) storage, regular backup, and up to date software and operating system to keep up with security updates.

Our Unix service runs on the rock solid FreeBSD operating system with Apache web server, the most popular web server on the Internet. We ensure that every single details on our servers are running properly so that our customers willl experience a smooth experience.
